The first heat wave hit the Wachau valley in June, which is quite challenging for locals working in the gastronomy and tourism branch, as well as for winemakers. However the best way of getting through the heat and even enjoying it, is a boat ride on one of the famous wooden boats ‘Zillen’. At the beginning of summer, there is usually a nice breeze at the Danube River, which can be felt well on board. The boats are used by locals and tourists alike! The perspective from the water is stunning, time is forgotten and if the temperature gets even higher then jumping into the river is the best.
Seagulls fly up and downstream and give the river landscape Wachau its Mediterranean touch. Oleanders start to bloom at house fronts and of course the classical ‘Spritz’ made with white Muscat wine or Rosé cannot be missed at this time of the year.
Escape the heat’s lethargy and treat yourself and your family or colleagues with a boat ride on our Wachaupur-Zille ‘Hechtnockerl’ or the befriended ‘Watstein’ and ‘Zilli’ – altogether motorised wooden boats which make summer life unforgettable!
